Leadership Coaching

I receive frequent coaching requests from executives, business managers, HR managers and recently-promoted leaders who want to learn how to:

  • Be an inspiring leader
  • Improve their interpersonal skills
  • Increase their emotional intelligence
  • Know how to think and act as a leader
  • Present with power and confidence to people at all levels, especially to senior executives
  • Engage people on the team and turn them into high performing units

I approach my coaching roles as a guide, facilitator and educator. Coaching with me will deepen your learning, improve your performance and enhance the quality of your thinking. You will experience it as one of the most personal and customized self-development programs.

My coaching program is assessment-based and geared towards very specific objectives. To achieve results, I work with clients one-on-one and in teams with the responsible and ethical use of formal psychometric and leadership and emotional intelligence assessment tools, as well as proven processes involving assessment, action planning, and execution. The program is suited for those who are prepared to do the work required to develop and follow an action plan for self-growth. Clients are expected to experiment with new behaviors, and put in place new standards of personal performance.

Coaching with the Emotional Competence Inventory (ECI)

Emotional Competence Inventory (ECI)

One of the most effective ways of increasing your emotional intelligence is through coaching. Coaching for Emotional Intelligence starts with measuring your emotional intelligence in the four major areas of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and relationship management. You will receive invaluable feedback in those critical areas from people you interact with at work every day - your manager, peers, subordinates and others.

Coaching within an emotional intelligence framework helps develop your ability to manage yourself so that you can achieve your goals. It helps to develop your leadership presence and your interpersonal skills for effectively managing your relationships. Ultimately, coaching for emotional intelligence is about creating the capacity for mature and harmonious interactions with others that lead to the achievement of business and personal results.

You will become aware of how others perceive you in a number of crucial leadership areas. You will gain awareness of how you see yourself in relation to how others see you. Coaching for the gap yields powerful insights. Here is a sample of what you learn about yourself:

  • How your emotions may affect your performance.
  • What your strengths and limitations are.
  • The confidence you have in your ability, and your decisions or opinions.
  • The extent to which you can control disruptive emotions.
  • The extent to which your actions are aligned with your values and beliefs (are your actions consistent with your words? do others see it that way?)
  • How you adapt to changing situations or obstacles.
  • Are you viewed as reliable and accountable?
  • Do you meet and beat goals? Do you surpass standards of excellence?
  • Do you think ahead of the present and see future needs and opportunities?
  • How proactive are you?
  • How well do you understand others?
  • Do people see you take an interest in their concerns or are you viewed as self-serving?
  • Do you orient yourself towards serving others?
  • Are you sensitive to the realities of organizational politics and structure?
  • Do you have political savvy?
  • Do you use influential strategies and tactics? Are you persuasive?
  • Do you foster the long-term development of others?
  • Are you an inspiring leader?
  • Do you create an atmosphere of openness?
  • Are you a change catalyst or do you oppose change?
  • Are you effective at resolving disagreements?
  • Are you an effective team player?

Coaching with the Leadership Practices Inventory

Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI)

Leadership coaching is geared towards anyone playing a leader's role, whether in an organizational or non-organizational environment. Coaching with this assessment help individuals who want to become more effective leaders or those who are aspiring to move to the next level in their career.

It starts with the Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI) and follows the proven framework of the Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership™. Through decades of research, Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner discovered successful leaders exhibited 30 common behaviors. The more frequently you exhibit these behaviors, the more others attribute to you the qualities of leadership. The 30 behaviors are distilled into five practices of exemplary leadership. They are:

  1. Model the Way
  2. Inspire a Shared Vision
  3. Challenge the Process
  4. Enable Others to Act
  5. Encourage the Heart

You will get a clear understanding of where you are in relation to these practices and you will receive practical tips, tools and information that will help you enhance your ability in all five practices.
